Darron Cox was born in a small village (Sutton Coldfield) in the West Midlands area and the United Kingdom in 1969. (So for the Records State - 18th December is when you send all Happy Birthday emails). Thus making me now 30.
I immigrated with my parents to Australia in the early 1970's in search of the so called "BETTER LIFE" as described by the Australian Government at the time. At that time I had one younger brother Mark. Now aged 28. Our family stayed in Newcastle (Sydney, N.S.W.) for atleast 5 years before setting off on the adventure of a lifetime - To travel around Australia on a working holiday.
The next few years were spent living in a 22 ft caravan in trailer parks and traveling from state to state. I have to this date traveled into most regions of Australia including every state. Attended over 22 schools and 1 correspondence school. It was an education to behold and envied by most of my piers. Some of my few claims to fame during that period was to gain skills in fruit picking and tractor driving. I've been through 13 (yes! 13) cyclones and one of which (Cyclone Amy - 1980 -) where my 3rd and last brother Jamie was born and delivered by my father at the local Hospital where he worked.
I have also climbed Ayes Rock three times - and in the same week before one of Australia's largest and most bizarre court cases ever - The Azaria Chamberlain case". (THE DINGO SNATCHING).
My family soon settled a year later in Queensland. A small city named Rockhampton. I completed my schooling years and went on to complete an Associate Diploma in Business Computing. I have currently applied and expect to commence a new course in 2000. A Bachelor in Information Technology.
After my completion of my A.D. course the Government employed me in the Main Roads Division as a clerical officer. I went on to complete many Training courses via Main Roads ranging from customer relations and extra computer modules. (5 Years).
But it isn't there where my interest in computers started. My hobby
started with the humble Commodore Vic20 and C-64 (as did many current top
programmers - and don't forget many of today's Software Houses owe their
evolution to the boom days of the 1980's and the Commodore C-64).
It wasn't long before playing games bored me and my interests soon
expanded into computer generated graphics and programming. Bye the time
I upgraded and purchased my Commodore Amiga 500 I had become well versed
in many gfx packages and coding and demo utilities. Again years later I
stayed with the same platform and upgraded to most recent model the Amiga
4000.
It was in 1994-1995 when I purchased my first IBM computer, mainly due to my interest in Virtual Reality - and have - as many other PC users - laboured to keep my hardware at the forefront of technology. Since then, my interests in computers have grown considerably. I've delved into Virtual Reality and programming in basic, Pascal, Fortran IV, C/C++, HTML, Java and a little 68k assembler for the Amiga computers. (All via my university days) Though I think I will stay away from programming personally.
My computer interests have also extended into hardware/software development of certain projects. The current one being the Touchscreen Kiosk Development. Where I hope to utilize Amiga. More information can be found on this project here.
During the past 11 years I have financed my living expenses and projects
through being a Disc Jockey and starting a local business with a friend.
PowerPak Entertainment's. While this business is now in it's twighlight
years it mainly functions to serve the hire, sales and installation industry.
Plus with the bonuses of working at Hamilton Island (Whitsunday Islands)
on the Great Barrier Reef it's too much of an opportunity to pass up. Easy
work - Easy money. Now that the entertainment business is is taking a back
seat as they say I have more time and resources to concentrate on my Virtual
Reality business and the Touchscreen Kiosk Units. Links on the main menu
page will take you to the appropriate web page for more information.
Today:
Im still an Amiga freak and am now currently running a CD32 based system
and an expanded A1200 till the hopeful and eventual release of the Boxer.
In the mean time I will continue to buy hardware and software to support
the Amiga cause. PPC and a 3D card being may eventual aim.
My hobbies apart from the computer side
also include Home Brew beer and soon to be
spirits, Bungie Jumping, Sky
Diving (Never enough), Beach Volleyball, Squash
and best of all Speedway Driving
with my younger brother. Though I must admit to being superseded by my
younger brother as he's now the far better driver and I also have so little
time left now days. We are currently building a new and improved Race car
from the ground up (March 2000) and hope to have it completed in the following
months. My personal aim is to have a BoingBall with the text - 'So the
world may know' painted on the Air Wing. More on this to come soon.
